View Full Version : Can't control Person or vehicle movement
And of course I went out and bought the game and it won't work just like the BF2 game. If anyone has any ideas please let me know? I think I have tried almost all that can be thought of but on the off chance.... just maybe?
Those of you who don't know what I am talking about it's this: recently, about three weeks ago after I reinstalled BF2 and all the patches and followup games, I tried to play BF2 but alas when ever I used the W, S, A, or D keys the person or vehicles that those keys are supposed to control are uncontrollable! I mean big time. When I release the W key the person will do what it wants like keep on going for as long or short as it wants and the same with a vehicle. That goes for the other movement control keys also? I have checked on the BF2 Forums and found that others are having the same problems and no one seems to have an answer. Some think they have come up with an answer but then it turns out that their problem was not the same. I sent a support question to EA games and they say they will answer within 48 hours and that time is not up yet so I am still waiting. I had to run a complete DX off my machine for them which I didn't mind doing as I just hope I can find out what is wrong. I have rebooted, used several keyboards, meeces, reset keys reinstalled the games (several times), used game pads etc. Needless to say I tried a lot of things but there may be something I missed. If someone wants a copy of my DX just ask if you think it will help you?
Thanks guys,

Goat, can u post a link to the forum thread on the problem. I would like to see what others have tried. Is you keyboard a PS2, USB, or wireless? Does any of the repeating keystrokes show up in a word processor document, like in Notepad?
We may want to move this portion of the thread to the Tech Support section so as to not hijack the thread on BF2142 gameplay.

Goat, I spoke to my son about your problem. One question he asked was........have you tried remapping the movement keys to other keys on your keyboard? Forget it, I see you mentioned resetting keys
Roger that Tomb:
I will try to move it. Hopefully I will do it right if not I will just cut and paste, lol!
Tomb:
I have tried a USB, a wireless, a laser and wired keyboard and it does the same with all of them. I also tried the same with the Meeces.
http://forums.easports.com/mboards/search.jspa?threadID=&q=When+releasing+W+the+person+or+vehicle+continues +to+move&objID=f143&dateRange=last90days&userID=&numResults=15&rankBy=10001 That is the link to all of the answers that were given but a lot of them don't even pertain to my question Tomb. I had to sort through them one at a time looking for the pertinent one and I don't know how to send you each one seperately? Hope this is what you wanted?
If I hear from EA today I am going to completely uninstall ALL of my games and start over again and install them again. At present they are all installed on their own hard drive or the "D" drive. Is it possible that another game became mixed with BF2 and has contaminated it? Just a thought, I don't now if that can happen or not?
I do have three seperate drives on my computer: Normal "C" drive, "D" drive and another partition "E" Hard Drive. I might just put BF2 and 2142 on the "E" drive by itself and see if that works? Who knows what will happen. Thanks and if you need any other info just ask?
I also ran a test on word and note pad and have no trouble at all with any of the aforementioned key operating the way they are supposed to!

Just did some post clean up for you Goat. Tomb you could have selected the minor posts and moved it into another thread also just FYI.
Goat my only guess is that you have a cluster of driver issues either related to DirectX or your OS registry is just going bad. Here is my suggestion if you can find another machine try the game and hardware you have to verify that it's not a hardware issue.
Try doing a default install of the game instead of moving it to other drives. It's quite possible that the install may have scattered files in different locations.
Last resort after you uninstall and reinstall everything like you said is start completely fresh and only install drivers and BF2142/BF2 first.
Thanks for cleaning that up Parasite (I just can't get used to that name but I will eventually) Now what you said about the scattering is what I was I think taking about. OK, I will give that a try and see what I can come up with. Sounds reasonable. Thanks a lot. Will let ya know!

Any luck yet Goat? I'll just second what Parasite said about the drivers. One thing you could do right now is uninstall the windows keyboard driver and force it to re-install upon boot up. Preferably installing the driving from the CD as opposed to what's already present in your system. You could also try running the System File Checker first and see if it catches anything. Good luck!
OK, this is what I just finished doing: I uninstalled the entire BF2 package including the B2142 and all patches. I then made sure everything was off of the computer by running a search and found nothing. So I then reinstalled BF2 all associated games and Patches and I let them install on the default hard drive which usually ends up being your "C" drive and was the same in this case. I then tried to play it on line single and multiplayer but it did the same thing. I was sure hoping that it was that and I would have a fix there but alas no luck. I will attemp to try anything that anyone comes up with so don't hesitate with the ideas. If I haven't tried it that is. I thought for sure we had a winner there but I guess not. Guess I got to keep on truckin!
Thanks Guys,

LOL That Spyware will do it every time.
Mac I hope you don't mind but I printed out what you said and I am going to try it. I like you am definitely leaning beaners way. I think I said that prior to beaners message and he really confirmed what I thought but I didn't have any basis for my thoughts and he did. I don't know how to do some stuff but I am going to do what I do know how to do and then get someone to help me with the rest. EA Games just got back to me and they had me:
Delete my save files and clear my temp folder which I have already done. There were three files that I couldn't delete so I didn't but it didn't help. Now I am going to try what I can of what you suggested. Thanks guys. It is appreciated!

I never run registry cleaners. In most cases they cause more harm than good and none of them actually really "fix" anything. It could find 33 duplicate or incorrect entries but you have to know what each one is specifically because removing the wrong one can break your system.
Mac is totally right though, if you do end up running a registery cleaner make sure you back your original up! There's a reason why Microsoft dumped thier own reg cleaner program. ;)
OK Guys here is the latest: I used the CCleaner which really cleaned out my computer and I'm glad that I did even though it didn't help my problem. Then I pulled a search on my computer in files and records etc for anything connected to BF 2 or 2142 or POE. I found quite A bit of stuff and I deleted all of it. I then went into My Documents and deleted anything relating to the above games and then into the recycle bin and the hidden recycle bin and deleted all of that stuff also. I then ran a search again and came up with nothing. So I then started installing BF2 and went through it step by step letting it install on the normal "C" Drive that it would usually install on. OH, before I started the install I ran SPY-BOT, AVG (paid Edition) , AD-Aware and Internet Security! After BF2 Install I installed the 1.3 Patch then I installed Special Forces, then POE, then I installed the 1.3 to 1.4 patch, then I installed Euro Force and the other one and then they requested that I reinstall the 1.4 patch again for the Euro force game, which I did. Then I tried to play it on Multiplayer and single player and it did the same thing as usual and was not fixed. So I'm headed for bed and maybe Santa Clause will come early and fix it for me? Yea right! Goodnight Gang! Take care!

Ok goat,
I've done some searching on the bf2 forums. You are right, there are quite a few people having this problem. Below are some links to the forums with various solutions. Forgive me if you've already tried these:
FRAPs/other applications running in background = turn off:

Possible problem with ATI cards:

This one is not encouraging (by the last post):

I saw two or three other posts about people having problems with this and using wireless keyboards. I'll keep looking...
Hey Brit I am looking forward to playing some nockdown Lockdown kickdown tonight!
Heen I would be glad to let you take over my computer if we can do it. Which I think we can. Any time your ready?
Balti I have tried them all but that last one od reformatting and I'm sure I don't know how to do it because I'm not sure what it is? I am so frustrated at this point that a !/4 stick would look good right now!

Goat, reformatting is just completely wiping the drive and starting fresh. You do this everytime you install Windows and most other OS's when they start thier installation proceedure.
