Look at this link to evaluate your current PC :
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/upgradeadvisor/default.mspx

Here are my known "issues" after running the diagnostic test:
My Canon Multipass printer/scanner/copier "will not work" with Windows Vista
Hamachi Network Interface - "no compatibility data available"
Creative Audigy Audio Processor and Game Port - tells me to d/l the latest drivers
NOD32 Anti-virus will be blocked from re-installing due to known compatibility issues....
Microsoft Communications System (whatever that is) will not work
Online Testing Web Client (whatever that is) will not work

Good things
My monitor, keyboard, graphics card, network connection, storage controllers, host controllers, USB mass storage device, my Pentium 4, DVD drive, 2.0 GB RAM, will all work fine.

They're kissing mine because everything works on my laptop. Not that I plan on running Vista though.

Figure I'll wait until they work out most of the bugs...wait that will take awhile, okay I'll wait until someone gives it to me for free.;)

The things I learned as a sys admin. One, do not use McCaffe's anti virus. Two, always run backups before installing new software. Three, have Linux installed on all hard drives as an alternative. Fourth and lastly, never get the first issue of anything from MicroSnot and only run it after you have tested it on a non cruicial computer and have a priest available who knows how to perform exorsisms..

Three, have Linux installed on all hard drives as an alternative.I just run Live Linux on CD to rescue a Windows machine. Knoppix, or Knoppix STD, or Unbuntu.

excellent tips. working with pc's every day all day i have a couple things to throw in as well. mccaffe sucks. so does norton. well, that's actually being nice to norton by saying that. get pccillin. less process memory to run and will catch a ton more than anything else. same price as well. dont know the compatibility with vista though....

i will one day upgrade to vista, but it will be at least a year until all the bugs are worked out before i consider an upgrade. the min req for it are kinda rediculous (considering it's just an os) so i dont think my pos pc can handle it anyway (at least the higher up versions). I have a feeling that with so many people upset over the crap microsoft has pulled that this thing may make or break it for a lot of people on using a MS OS in their pc.....
