And I dont mean mentally, thats common knowledge already.
I can't play wmv. files anymore. I get the audio but no video. Recent changes to my system would be a new SoundBlaster Fatal1ty X-fi Xtreme gamer sound card with most of the creative software, and then I installed Power DVD (oem). I have tried to uninstall both and also go to a prior restore point in Windows. No luck. I updated the M/B bios too. Out of desperation I have now installed Windows Media Player 11. No help but MS knows what time I go to bed now.
System specs: Asus P5N32-Sli Premium, Intel Core 2 duo E6600, 2 gb Corsair DDR2 800 mhz, Evga 7900 GTO (2) with Xtreme-G 93.71 drivers, LiteOn 16x DVD-RW, Barracuda 7200.10 320 gb SATA. Windows XP SP2, Firefox 2.0 and IE7.
I have done some searching around but cant seem to find this particular problem.

Sounds like one of the new programs are conflicting with ownership of the .wmv files. Did you check out the file type settings in each new program to make sure they aren't trying to be the default player for .wmv's? I've seen this happen with Quicktime trying to take over Mediaplayer file types.

I think I made sure to check that stuff out. I am pretty sure your right about the conflict. I noticed that a file manager loading exe. from creative was using 50% of one cpu so I shut it down through task manager. It hung up my system after that by locking out the task bar. I was looking for a way to re-boot and decided to change video drivers. I un-installed the current driver and when the puter tried to restart it wont post now at all. Just a blank screen. So I unplugged the dead machine with tears in my eyes and now am back on the older box. Damn I know just enough to be dangerous, but not enough to trouble shoot software conflicts.

I hear ya about knowing enough to be dangerous...did almost the same thing last March...killed my computer adding upgrades such as ram and video card. I could have sworn I had myself grounded...lol...guess not...

Reboot in safe mode, uninstall the Creative applications that you recently installed and try booting up normally. Sounds like that Creative program is a little flaky.

Well Ninja I thought I would change the vid driver to see if it might be part of the problem. My big mistake was attempting to do it while the freaking system was not stable. So now I can't get any video at all while booting up. If I can figure out how to get video I will go into safe mode and rip the creative crap out by the roots. Something I always forget to do, safe mode can be a good friend if you remember to use it.
I also tried clearing the cmos to see if that would help me boot up, it didnt help. Am I shiznet out of luck at this point?
