How many of you would be interested in running a F1 league on tuesday nights gents?
the nascar league will continue to run but I thought maybe for you open wheel drivers I would look into helping and starting a 5 race season as season 1 and developing it from there. Just food for thought . If enough is interested !

I would do it...but I would be for a fixed setup server so that it would be more driver skill on the road courses. Maybe allow in-car adjustments only like the brake bias and weight jacking, or whatever rFactor allows from in-car.

I agree with Tomb on the fixed setup.

I agree too on the fixed set-up idea. I ain't no road pro with super secret set-ups in hiding. These cars stick so well stock I think it will be fun. Just stay away from the Minardi, thing is like driving on ice.

Anyone have any favorite tracks yet? I will be testing some out and will let you know the ones I like once I find them.

Count me in for sure! Fixed setups or not, doesn't matter to me. I usually get my setups from guys who post 'em anyway...

We may want to at least allow some traction control and possibly some other aids...

Good points P-Dad. We should come to some sort of basic aid set-up like you mentioned traction control, maybe low settings on braking ect...

Be nice to have some tracks to practice on. I have tried out Nuerberg Ring, short version, Imola and will try some more soon.

Hey P-Dad, we'll let you open wheel guys decide on the setup we all will run, downloaded or self created. Yeah I think the driving aids can help keep cars on the track pointed in the right direction but I think like in most sims you will not get the fastest times if you choose to use the aids. Anything adjustable in-car should be allowed to be tweaked to the drivers preference, like braking bias...I know I have a heavier foot than some on braking and usually have to dial it back a little.

Looking forward to making some test laps with you guys.

Hmmm...maybe I can paint a custom car for the F2 CTDP mod. Anyone know if it allows custom cars?

Sure thing Tomb...when we decide on what tracks to run, I'm sure we can come up with some good setups. As for the driving aids, I use low traction control and sometimes steering and braking help. They do slow you down a bit, but so the gravel traps I always end up in without TC. I once joined a server where the allowed no aids, and I could not keep it on the track for a whole lap! I'm sure my digital rates needed to tweaked, but I think for most of us TC will save a lot of wipe outs.

As for the tracks, we may want to make a download list of some actual F1 tracks. Some fairly good ones that I would suggest would be: Bahrain, Imola, Monza. Also Indy, and Suzuka (I can't believe they won't run that anymore-I loved it) are good ones. We don't have to though, as there are some neat tracks already part of rFactor and CTDP.

It looks like CTDP 2006 won't be out for a while, so I guess we'll run 2005, eh?

Tombstone

Alright, I will try and help you guys get the right files on the dedicated box version of rFactor. Fortunately the NASCAR Mod we run installs into it's own directory so we should be able to run both and just assign them to different ports.

I will try and get all the listed tracks installed and see about launching a the server for practice. One, or more, of you open wheel guys will need to learn how to remote manage the server and/or get access to the dedicated box desktop to setup and launch the server.

Big Dave said he would help any way he could with what he learned starting the NASCAR series but that someone would be needed to run the stuff for the F1 series.

Be sure to jump on TS in the Open Wheel channel if you want to discuss how we can get this done.

PiLL, I think u may already have it from previous posts on F1 mods. It will be the F1 CTDP 2005 . I guess Tort and P-Dad are tracking the progress of the 2006 version but it won't be out for a while.

Still working on the tracks. How about someone posting a list of tracks and where to get them. I hope to have the box ready to run the F1 server starting this weekend.

We are going to run F1 2005 v1.2 by CTDP found here. http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=F1%202005

Just unzip it into your main rFactor directory. Once we determine some tracks we will post those.

So far I like Kyalami (Africa), Imola 2005 (Europe), Nuerberg (Europe) and though I dont have it yet I agree with P-Dad about Indianapolis.

I tend to like tracks with corner deceleration markers, due to the fact we are dealing with 2 dimensions, its easier to have some indication a corner is coming up. Its way too easy to be hauling a$$ and miss those darned corners.:D

I have launched a rFactor F1 Dedictaed Server on the box. I was not able to FTP the tracks to the server so some of the default GranPrix tracks are loaded.

Look for "Old School Gamers F1".

Let me know what options you want changed. Hopefully I will get to FTP the tracks up this weeeknd.

Keep posting tracks and suggestions for this server and series.

Yup same here. Not sure what mod that is running on the server Tomb.

Hmmm...not sure what gives. I am launching an rFactor dedicated server running the F1 2005 CTDP Mod using only basic rFactor tracks. The CTDP mod can be launched in F1 2005 or F1 2005 SE modes. I have the server running in the F1 2005 mode. I will check to see if it is port issue because of 2 rFactor dedicated servers running.

I may need some help testing this so if you are available log onto TS in the rFactor Open Wheel channel.

Thanks.

**UPDATE** It looks like we have 2 versions of rFactor installed on the box and 1 version of rFNASCAR Evo. Evidently the rFactor I was trying to run was not patched to v.1250. I did that and added the tracks. Hopefully that fixes the problem and we can all see how the F1 server is working.

So you all still cannot connect? I will try and reset the server later today (Sunday) to the F1 2005 SE Mod. Please let me know what error it is giving you when you try to connect cuz i thought I had it last night. Just too tired to try it myself.

**UPDATE** Well I went in to reset the server and saw that we have had a bunch of racers on it. :) Looks like PiLL, Klr, Viper and about 5-10 other have been on in the last 12 hours. PsychoDad I saw u connected but left pretty quick. Let me know if you got an error or not. Also let me know if the track rotation is good so far. How many laps do you all want races to be? Do you want tire wear and fuel use set at x1 or a higher multiplyer?

Once I get you guys setup with access to the server you can adjust these things the way you want.

I got in fine, and raced for about 15 or 20 minutes. Someone else joined, but left after a lap or two. I was on TS, but didn't have a lot of time. Everything was good though.

As far as number of laps, maybe we should start out low, like 10 or 15. It's a lot of work driving these baby's. I only raced online one time, and it was a 10 lap race at Suzuka. I felt like I could have gone more, but it seemed like a good number of laps for a casual race. Maybe longer for the actual league race though.

I tried to run Bahrain in testing and on the server and it would not load. I checked the CTDP site and found this,

Figure this might be my problem.

Just so I am clear, what game should be bought? Then add the rFactor F1 2005 on to it?

It just so happens that I do have the game F1 2002. Is this the game... then I should add on the rFactor F1 2005 mod to it?

Let me know and i will hook it up.

Johnny, you will need to get/purchase rFactor which is the base game. Then go to the rFactor website and download any mod you want. There are a ton of tracks you can download too.

We will be running the F1 2005 mod by CTDP for the F1 series. Read the threads and you will find the links for the F1 mod and the tracks we will be running.

Once you get rFactor installed and you need help with the rest, get on TS and someone will point you in the right direction.

Make sure you get the rFactor v1250 patch. I think the full client only comes in v1150.

Then you should be set to race with these open wheel guys. We also have a group (some race both) that are racing a stock car (NASCAR Nextel Cup) mod. Just look for info on that under the rFactor folder.

There are also some cool GT class mods coming out. Just browse around rF Central for any type of racing you like.

Hey Tranzen. I restarted the F1 server after we had to shut it down to help serve up more resources to host the Monday night series race. I double checked and in most mods for rFactor the tracks will all go in the GAMEDATE\LOCATIONS folder. Just unzip or direct their installers there.
