I would like to upgrade my PC from AGP 4X to 8X. How do i do dat?

Background: My geforce 5200, an AGP 4X graphics card, crapped out. I installed an ATI 1050, an AGP 8X card, and it works, (8X being backwardly compatable). The ATI is 256MB and is providing smoooooother BF2 game play updates than the 128MB GeForce. But I suspect that it is not performing to its maximum since my BIOS supports only AGP 4X. I suspect that I need to change the BIOS (GULP!) to one that supports 8X. My motherboard is an Elitegroup K7S5A. I have been to the website, and the latest down load does not support AGP 8X.

I dont want to screw up my pc and loose all my data, but I want to hit moving targets. Haaaalp!

Looks like it's time for a new motherboard. If the board doesn't natively support 8x you'll need to buy a new one that does. You might be able to get away with a board swap but my guess is XP will throw a fit.
