View Full Version : Constant Connection Lost
I'm having a huge problem with losing my connection all the time while racing, i've been kicked out of 4 races since running with osg in the middle of a race and now ive been kicked out of 3 NROS races right in the middle of a race while doing good. I know its not the servers but my POS computer but what setting can i change or what do i have to do to my router to keep it from doing this crap. Do i need to just go out and get a long ass land line and run it from my router during races so the POS dont shit on me during races. just wondering, thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Post up some details of your setup and hardware. Also, how is your security on your system and has your OS been re-installed lately? There are many variables as to why you're dropping your connection.
I found that my connect kept disconnecting due to a lose cord (on the outside of my house). not to say that this is your problem, but i would check all connections and make sure they are all nice and tight. You can also call your ISP and tell them that you are experiencing this and they can run a few tests that will tell you if its on their side or yours. If its on thier side, they will fix it. This too happend to me. i also found that a clean reset does the trick... as in, unplug your motem, router, or anything you have on your home network. Let it stay off for a few min. Then start with turning on your motem. Let that sit for a few min... then turn on your router... etc. Start it up slowly. I found that not having a decent recet over a period of time can make the connection somewhat unstable at times.
I would also make sure all junk is cleaned out of your PC if you have any. make sure that there are not any hogging applications taking up any bandwith that should go into your game.
Just a few little ideas. If any of the little stuff does not help it, I would call your ISP and definately tell them about this issue. They can definately help you out.

Just my 2 cents, but how many processes are you running? How much RAM do you have? Have you ever cleaned your tcp stack? There are a lot of variables, like Ninja said post your comp specs and check your processes. One of us might have an answer. Of course if you are doing good in a race it could be the boot gremlin.......

Is this a wireless router? Is this right? If that is the case, this could be the problem. There is lag automatically inherent in a wirelss situation. This lag can get so bad that it does disconnect you from your game. The farther away you are from the router, the more lag you can eventually get.

Doug, that is what I picked up on too...the part about running a hard line. It would be worth trying right up front to see if it makes a difference. I have previously had wireless disconnects for no apparent reason. However, since I upgraded my Wireless to a Buffalo Air Station and Air Station Etherner Converter I have had no problems. I have two high gain directional antenaes for max coverage. All my racing is done over this wireless connection, which I used to think was impossible.
Just be sure to give these guys as much specifics as you can and they will help you out. A lot of experience on these boards and someone will probably have seen the problem before.
Good luck Matt.

Jeez Tomb, you should trade your badge for a pocket protector. They should make a TV show about you. Fights crime by day and STOP 0x83C38208 by night. Maybe call it "Tampa: MCSE".

You might want to check out this Microsoft Knowledge Base article about Window's wireless zero config. It fixes alot of problems such as connection loss.
