Hey guys,
Why do none of the system monitors I have not see the changes I make in the BIOS settings? When ever I change FSB or Mem timings in the BIOS CPU-Z v 1.38, 1.39, 1.40, and PC Wizzard 2007 1.73 Don't see the change. They all show the same settings before the change.
On the Post page I see the changes such as processor speed 2500 MHz and all the settings for mem timings are still set.
I have used all these in the past and they have always worked. The only thing different with my machine in the last few months is...I had to reload my OS (XP Home) and at that time I never reinstalled AI Booster. My MOBO is an Asus A8N32 SLI-Deluxe BIOS v 1303.
It is just weird to me, thought some of you real geeks might know why?

Maybe they're reading the actual timings that the memory sticks are reporting? Why are you changing your timings on your memory? Are you over clocking your system?

Right now NO! I'm running DDR 500 (3,3,2,8) mem at 400 with tighter timings (2,2,2,5)
But I like to manually set the mem timings. My PC runs fine but I would like to see that changes when I do OC or change timings.

So if I'm reading this right you're running faster memory at a slower clock speed? What do you expect to gain by changing the timings? Just run the memory at it's native clock speed assuming the MOBO can handle it of course. If you want more memory performance...buy more memory, especially if you can do dual channel. :)

Ok figured out what is going on.
When I set the FSB to 220, 240 what ever. At windows startup the bus runns at that speed for only about 5 secs, then defaults back to 200.
Do you think clearing the cmos would do the trick, it's a pain in the ass, have to remove both video cards to do it?

One of these nights catch me on TS and we can talk shop. :)
What are the full specs of your system? Like MOBO capabilities, CPU, and the like. I'm skeptical that you'll see much, if any, boost in performance from running tighter timings vs running the faster clock speed unless the timings on your RAM sticks are really horrible. I understand what tightening the timings can accomplish but seeing that you're running DDR2 500 at slower 400 (DDR or DDR2?) speed, I just don't see there being much gain. What size memory sticks and how many are you running?
Like I said, hit me on TS and we can talk about it.

Hey Hedge. If you need some Benchmarking software let me know and I'll post it to the FTP for you. That's the only real way to tell if MHZ or timings gets you the edge in performance. I have PCMark04 as well as 3dMark03,05 and 06. The only time I have down clocked my RAM was when it was tied to my FSB and I was pushing the FSB up a considerable amount to OC the CPU.
Oh, and you should not have to clear the CMOS for the settings to stick. See if you have some type of AUTO DETECT Motherboard Utility running when Windows launches. It may be "fixing" what it sees as not standard.
I am sure Ninja can help ya but I just had these observations.

He is the official OSG interpreter between the geek world and the real world.....I read all these posts and I must say it smells like geek spirit. I thought I was gonna have to get out my horn rimmed glasses and pocket protector to read this....lol

Got it figured out Ninja! Nvidia nTune got installed probibly the last time I updated my Video drivers. nTune is used for GPU and System monitoring and has a second function....Overclocking.
So it was nTune driving all my settings back to the default because that is where all it's settings were. Removed nTune and problem solved! Now my Mushkin mem is running at DDR 500, no problems.
Hey Tome, do you have the full versions or just free basic ver? I'm currently using all free basic versions of PC Mark 05, 3D Mark 05, and 3D Mark 06.
