Saw this on FilePlanet:

Through a collaborative effort Intel and EA DICE are rolling out a new Battlefield map for players to battle on. Highway Tampa is a vehicle focused map that offers a game experience similar to classic 1942 desert warfare. Explore this stretch of the Arabian Peninsula in your choice of vehicle and work with your team mates to conquer the map for your team. Download the beta, join in the servers, and drive, fly, and destroy your way to victory. Then drop by the EA forums and let us know what you think. Also keep your eyes to the future as this stretch of desert will see combat across two generations of Battlefield

Guess downloads of the beta version can be had from various sites.

I just installed it and am gonna go looking for a server. *update* Not bad, pretty large map, one jet per side and no attack helo's and a troop helo per side. One jet pilot complained about visibility, looked really dusty to me. Something new is fun for awhile. I should also point out there are plenty of tanks and AA around. Sort of a chase your tail with minimal cover sort of map? Rolling hills with a few trees and a body of water that really doesn't come into play for much.

It's so funny to me that they would choose that theater to make a map for. It seems like there are a ton of people who are still waiting for a PLA city map.

From Tort's description it doesn't sound like we get to "pick our vehicle" from a very wide selection. Can't you just see yourself getting pounded in the middle of the map while everyone else on your team is sitting around waiting for the plane to spawn?

After all the time that BF2 has been out...making us pay for "booster packs" that are really only a few new maps...an expansion pack...etc. what are they thinking? If they would have done this a long time ago, say every 3 or 4 months, it might be something special. To release something like this now doesn't make much sense does it?

I know that my interest is really falling for BF2. I don't play it as much. I've started losing interest in PR as well. I sincerely hope something new comes out that grabs all or most of our interest because I see Scrim Nights are rapidly declining in participation, I see some former BF2 players not playing it at all even during Scrim Nights, etc. We need a new game entirely and VERY SOON!!!

I think a lot of people are doing outside stuff since it is nice and stuff. I expect things to pick up around fall timeframe.

Played it some more and it is shaping up to be a great tank battle map, like armored fury should have been without the A-10. Without total air dominance you can get an armored column rolling and have some fun. Good map for engineers repairing armor and laying AT mines.

I bought my son a PS3 and I have been playing games on that with him. I noticed that GRAW 2 comes out in a few weeks. I might pick up on that. I would like to see more coop missions.
