Rage

Entering into Age of Conan you can choose to be one of the following classes. Each class has a sub class that you can specialize in.

Classes

The classes that are available to you are determined from which archetype you choose and the race you hail from. Not all races can play all classes, so you have to make a conscious decision on what sort of character you wish to play. This information is given at the start of the game. The classes that are planned for each archetype from level twenty are these:

Soldier

* Guardian

The ancient warrior tradition usually forms the front line of any respectable army. Thet protect and serve their comrades in arms through strength of will and determination, holding off blows and foes that would strike down a lesser mortal. While adept with wielding a shield in combat they are also uniquely trained in the use of pole arms that can surprise their enemies with the swiftness and effectiveness of their attacks. Encased in the heaviest armour, the Guardian focusses on powerful directional attacks that temporarily damage armour and protection, increasing the amount of damage the enemy takes.

Specialties: 1HE, 1HB, Pole Arm, Specialized combo lits for one-hand and pole arm lines, shield, directional damage mods.

Conqueror

The standard bearer of the battlefield, the Conqueror leads the charge into battle. Their courage and bravery acts as a rallying call for their allies and instills fear and dread into their enemies. Wearing heavy armour, the Conqueror relies upon their quick wit and reflexes to evade attacks. The standard they proudly carry in to battle provides a boost to the Conqueror team, typically increasing damage. In times of need, the Conqueror is able to take the standard and plant it into the ground in a devastating attack. Superbly trained in the combat arts, these adaptable warriors are equally at home dual wielding weapons or using more powerful but slower two-handed weapons.

Specialties: 1HE, 1HB, 2HE, 2HB, Specialized combo lists for dual wielding and two-handed. Can dual-wield any combination of 1HE/1HB, group buffs.

Dark Templar

The Dark Templar is one who, while excellently versed in the art of war, has also fallen foul of the lure of ancient dark magics. They are able to draw on these abilities to augment the team with powerful auras and are able to transfer life to their team. The Dark Templar suffers for these abilities as the dark pacts made to sustain their power means the Dark Templar is susceptible to soul corruption effects more than most other classes. Wearing heavy armour and carrying a shield and blade, the Dark Templar drains the life from enemies while attacking. The Dark Templar is the only class not in the priest class that has healing spells.

Specialties: 1HE, 1HB, life drains, unholy damage.

Priest

Priest of Mitra

Proud and devout, the priests of Mitra ensure that the teachings of their god is protected and passed on to their followers. Their faith allows them to draw on great determination and belief that they cannot help but instill in those around them. With powerful healing abilities and knowledge of restorative arts, these priests are able to call upon the power of Mitra to throw back those that would confront them, keeping them from harm.

Specialties: Healer, repulse area of effect ability, 1HE, 1HB.

Scion of Set

Dedication to the god Set, the Scions are often considered fanatics whose dedication to their god reaches devotion that many would confuse for insanity. While well schooled in the healing arts the true power of the Scion of Set comes from their being blessed by the snake god. This grants them with the ability to inflict damaging poisons upon their enemies and call upon the poisonous powers of Set to augment their allies attacks with the venom of the snake god. With the ability to take a lethal snake form the Scion is not a foe to be underestimated. When they are faced with the enemy they prefer to wield their sacrificial and ceremonial daggers.

Specialties: Healer, poison spells, dagger, 1HE, 1HB.

Druid of the Storm

Primal and resourceful, these priests of the shamanic arts are masters of the world around them, at once with nature. Masterfully in touch with the elements themselves, the Druid of the Storm can control and call upon the power of weather to hinder and attack their foes, calling down lightning and creating storms.

Just as they use their knowledge of nature to use the elements, the Druid of the Storm have learned ancient arts that allow them to call upon swarms of bees and hornets to smite their foes. Their understanding of the world around them also means that they have an almost endless knowledge of natural healing remedies that can keep their allies standing in battle.

Specialties: Healer, electrical damage, summons storms and hurricanes, damage over time, 1HE, 1HB, Pole Arm.

Bear Shaman

Like the Druid of the Storm, the Bear Shaman foregoes belief in any particular deity and instead places their faith in the power of nature. But unlike the Druidic, they place that faith in those creatures that share the world of man. This type of shaman has a powerful and mystical kinship with bears and is able to call upon and be infused with the strength of a bear, and even become a bear themselves, providing great melee prowess. While still having good restorative abilities, the Bear Shaman prefers to maul the enemy. The Bear Shaman is also the only priest class that is able to wear medium armour.

Specialties: Healer, group resistance and defensive buffs, 2HB and 2HE.

Rogue

Barbarian

The Barbarian is a muscular combatant, focusing on a combination of pure strength and panther-like agility to overcome their enemies. Specializing in using a two-handed weapons for maximum impact, almost all of the Barbarian's attacks are area-of-effect. Having a mastery of sweeping and wild swings, the Barbarian relishes the opportunity to crush as many opponents as possible in a single blow. They also have guile that most of their foes do not credit them with, well versed in dirty street fighting and bar brawls the Barbarian has learned many tricks the hard way and is also capable of being a devious and deceptive foe that can easily catch their opponent off guard.

Specialties: 1HE, 1HB, 2HE, 2HB. Has specialized combo lists for dual wielding and two-handed. Can dual wield any combination of 1HE/1HB, damage debuff, snare, blind, damage over time, berserking, armour debuffs.

Assassin

The Assassin is a master of all that means death to those who cross their path. As knowledgeable in the dark arts that verge into necromancy as they are in the ways of the blade these masters of pain are experts in ensuring their foes meet a painful and untimely demise! Trained with teachings shrouded in mystery, the assassin utilizes various forms of poisons and ancient arts in order to cause harm to his enemies or aid himself and his allies. Although a crafty and resourceful fighter they prefer to use their subtle arts of death wherever possible to leave their opponents open to the final swift strike of their daggers.

Specialities: Dual-wielding daggers. Option of using either bonus poison damage or bonus unholy damage, draining soul essences to use with special attacks, damage-over-time, damaging, disorienting, and slowing poisons, restorative elixirs.

Ranger

The Ranger is a ranged specialist, preferring to stay out of melee combat and dispatch his foes from afar. Relying on accuracy and precision, Rangers are less concerned with mobility and more with self-preservation and using their skills to keep their enemies at a distance. Masters with either bow or crossbow, they can provide essential ranged cover for their allies, be it through blanketing areas in arrows or sniping vulnerable targets that may be cowering behind the front lines or use power of their mighty crossbows torip right through opponents, plunging their bolts into opponents standing or hinding behind them.

Specialities: Volley attacks, sniper attacks, damage-over-time, piercing attacks, knockdown attacks, bow and crossbow, 1HE, 1HB.

Mage

Lich

Of all the mages the Lich is perhaps the most feared by the ordinary travellers. Where the Necromancer animates the dead, the Lich actually embraces and joins the dead. Becoming one with the foul and decaying undead they can channel great power from their sacrifice of parts of their mortal soul and body. By fusing with the bones of the dead, the Lich gains impressive physical strength and resilience. In this form the Lich prefers to wade into battle and club enemies to death, although retains access to their full array of spells.

Specialties: Summons weapons, undead form, 2HB, 2HE.

Necromancer

Evil and twisted Necromancers bring the cursed and dead back from beyond the mortal realm to do their bidding. The master of unholy magic, the Necromancer animates the dead and corrupts the living. Looking down on the Demonologist for needing to strike bargains for power, the Necromancer needs no such crutch, relying on his own mastery of death to kill his enemies.

Specialties: Cold or Unholy Direct Damage, undead pets, lifetap.

Herald of Xotli

Some demonologists are either too weak minded or venture too far down the path of demonology to remain untainted. The Heralds are those that bargained with the demon god Xotli and paid the ultimate price, becoming a host to true demonic powers. In battle, the Herald transforms into a demon, preferring to melee opponents and feel the enemy's flesh tear rather than rely on spells, although they retain a fearsome arsenal of spells to call upon as needed.

Specialties: Summon weapons, demon form, 2HE, 2HB.

Demonologist

The Demonologist bargains with demons for power, binding them to his will. While able to use certain magic without the aid of demonic powers, the Demonologist is not as studied as other mages, having a need to make blood pacts to reach full potential. Still, the Demonologist is powerful enough to bring demons to this realm and bind them to service.

Specialties: Fire or electrical Direct Damage, demon pet, short duration buff to increase casting abilities.

There are four different prestige classes: The Crafter, the Lord, the Commander and the Master. Each of these has extremely valuable advantages that can be used both in solo play and in team play, and each has specific skills and benefits that can make a great difference. The commander can, for instance, expand groups and use special formations during combat, while a lord have certain rights when it comes to building cities and gathering resources. Are the Lord, Commander, Crafter and Master classes available like a rank up in COD4 (to General) or is that separate like the Soldier, Priest, etc. ?

Hmm, kinda digging the Dark Templar character. Was never one to be able to figure out magic in other, older games I played before (Eye of the Beholder, Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate), or stick with something simple like a Barbarian (after all, it is Conan right?)

the crafter, lord, commander, are probably all titles added to the main profession the dark templar is a main profession u do the others are extras you prolly choose or are assigned and then you can work together to build and more importantly defend the city from hostiles if u read the roles of lord and commanders and crafters you will see why this is a game that you need teamwork and good friends to watch your back.

CrazyC out....

the herald of xolti looks cool demon power baby might need to make me like 3-4 chars lol

Ok, after reading up on Dark Templars from that link, I'm definitely going with that one. Speaking of which, they mention that they can be a "Tank", which Tombstone mentioned in another thread...what the hell is that?

A tank is a "Meat Shield ". Someone who takes all the damage and holds all the Aggro so other classes can do the damage.

Read more about tanks here.

we will need a good mix of classes if we all play. normaly there is 6 people alowed in 1 group. depending on the difficaulty of the zones/mobs you will need at least 1 tank, 1 healer, and rest dps (rogue/mage). the best tank in all games has always been a guardian that i have seen and all games have guardians. they tend to withstand the most damage and able to generate the more agro in holding down 1 or more mobs at one time. the other classes in the tank class i would consider off tanks or simi tanks for not so difficault mobs.

ill more then likely play a guardian since i have main raided with a guard for over 2 years in EQ2 so you guys grab up all the dps classes ya can and burn the shit down while i hold the mobs off from killing you :).

It allways helps to have a backup healer... If your healer runs OOM or gos down you have a back up.

Dead healer = wipe

Hahaha, you guys are going to confuse the crap out of Balti with "OOM", "Aggro", "Wipe".

Balti there is another terminology all the guys new to this type of game will have to learn. It will come without thought... as you play the game.

But.. for the record.. here is a cheat sheet.

AC - Armor Class or Defense.
Add - An extra monster has joined an existing battle.
Alt - A character on your account other than your main character.
AoE - Area of Effect Damage. This is a spell that hurts a group of monsters in an area like Blizzard in Warcraft III.
AE - Area Effect
AFK - Away from Keyboard. This means the player is away from his computer.
Aggro - This means the monsters are mad at you and you've "activated" them to attack you. They are now in the motion of trying to reach and attack you. "The Murloc aggroed on me!" or "The Murlocs will aggro if you get too close!" i.e you aggravated them.
Aggro Radius - The radius around the monsters where they will "wake up" and attack you.
AGI - Agility
Avatar - Your character
Buff - A beneficial spell cast on a monster or player. An example of a "buff" is the Priest's Inner Fire or Shaman's Bloodlust.
Carebear - Player that prefers to help other players attack monsters rather than attack other players in player vs. player combat.
Caster - A character that stays on the back row to heal or cast spells on the enemy, such as a Mage.
Cheese - To exploit an imbalance in the game.
Combat Pets - A NPC controlled by a player, aiding that player and his teammates in fights.
CR - Corpse Retrevial
Creep - Monster
Creep Jacking - A term from Warcraft 3 where players attack other players while they are already engaged in combat with neutral monsters.
Critters - Monsters that don't attack back, like a bunny or deer.
DD - Direct Damage. This is a spell that does all of its damage in one hit rather than spreading its damage over time.
DMG - Damage
DOT - Damage over time
DPS - Damage per second
De-Buff - A negative spell cast on a unit that makes it less powerful. An example of a "de-buff" is Slow.
FH - Full Health
FM - Full Mana
Gank - Player vs. Player: To attack another player while they're trying to fight a monster.
GM - Game Master or Guild Leader.
Griefer - A person who purposely tries to annoy or anger other players.
Grinding - Staying in the same area fighting the same types of monsters for a very long time.
HP - Hit points or Health
Incoming (INC) - This means an attack is coming.
Instancing - This is a dungeon where you will load into your OWN copy of the dungeon with your group. Only you and your group will be in your copy of the dungeon. Another group that enters the same area will enter their own copy of the dungeon.
INT - Intelligence
Kiting - A style of combat in which a player continually stays out of combat range of an enemy usually by running from it, while simultaneously causing damage to it.
LFG - Looking for a group.
LFM - Looking for more.

LOM - Low on Mana.

MOB - Abbreviation of the word "Mobile". Mobs are all computer controlled characters in the game. You should likely use some other term such as monster, creep, or bad guy.
Nerf - To downgrade, to be made softer, or make less effective. "X has been nerfed."
Newbie - A term that sometimes means new player but also is used to mean a player is not very good.
Newb - Short for Newbie. See above.
Ninja - To try to loot an item without other players knowing or paying attention. Basically, to take an item without permission.
N00b - An incredibly uncool way to say newb. Don't use it.
NPC - This is a non player-controlled character. The characters are controlled by the server or realm. A "computer" character.
OOM - Out of Mana. People say this to let their party know they are out of mana and can't cast any spells, especially healing.
PC - Player controlled character
Pet - A NPC controlled by a player such as a Wolf, Infernal, and so on.
PK - Player Kill or Player Killer.
POP - Contraction of "Repopulation", often used as a shortened term for the re-spawn of monsters.
Proc - Activate. Example: A weapon with a special effect will "proc" every so often.
PST - Please Send Tell. Indicates that the person speaking wants to receive communication via a /t(ell) or /w(hisper) command.
Puller - Person who pulls monsters for the party.
Pulling - One of the players in a party heads out and leads one or more of the monsters back to the party so that the party can attack the monsters. The idea is to prevent too many monsters from attacking at once.

Root - To trap a target in place/stuck using a "root" type spell such as Entangling Roots, or Sleep.

SPI - Spirit
STA - Stamina
Stack - A number of identical items placed in a single inventory slot, to conserve space. Only certain items can be stacked.
STR - Strength
Tank - A melee character that can take a lot of damage like a Warrior.

I have really been eyeballing the ranger... I like the "Sniper" like style... Plus, ranged attack is very helpful to those in a hand to hand fight. It gives the enemy another thing to worry about while Furious is up in their face. They lose focus, start to panic and end up dying.

If your referring to my post about seeing you in 1-2 years please don't take me too seriously. I say if you want to play a game, any game, then do it, and have fun. If everyone is having fun I would be a fool not to join in, and it would be my loss. As you can see now I pLay a MINIMUM of 2 -3 different games everyday, so what is one more. It is too bad we could not convert delivering pizzas everyday for 10 hours. You show up and I give you 2 peperoni pizzas to deliver. When your done with the delivery (we will call them "quests" I will have another quest for you. To make it interesting we will locate our pizza store down off Martin Luther King Blvd. which around here has alot of crime. Now, on your quests you can beat the robbers and see how many you can toast with your tazors, spells etc..Now this is where it gets really good. Instead of sitting in front of computer getting fat from no excersize you will actually get paid cash for your efforts. It is a new theory that seems to be working. What do you think of that one Crazy? Like I said take about half of what I say with a grain of salt-life is too short!
