In reply to my question about whether or not we could get a Vegas 2 server (anyone have these ISOs or know how to do that?):

Hi,

We do not have the files available at this time. If you upload an ISO copy of the game we can assist you in setting up a server for it.

Thank you,

u would probably have to have a licenses extra copy to send to them all u do is rip it to an iso file which is a format they can then burn to a cd and then install prolly take some time to upload it to them or ftp it u can create an iso using nero if u got it but like i said u would neen another copy cause if u use urs u prolly cant access the game with the same key.

Ok, Vegas 1 had files released by ubi.com for running a dedicated server. I've gone through about 3 different forums for Vegas 2 and see that there is at least one person in a group that has gotten servers to work. I've posted in the same forums asking how to run one :
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1991064316/m/9591050356

Hopefully, we can figure this out and get one going. If not, maybe ubisoft will release dedicated server files again for this version.

Hey Balti I found this under "Rainbow6VegasServerReadMe. Text-NotePad" as I was perusing all the folders in nthe Vegas 2 folders. It might be what you are looking for if not, oh well?

"***************** RAINBOW SIX VEGAS 2 STAND ALONE DEDICATED SERVER ************************

Quick Start:
- Open Binaries\R6VegasServerLaunch.bat in a text editor
- Locate SET ONLINE_USERNAME= and set a valid username (ex: SET ONLINE_USERNAME=myusername)
- Locate SET ONLINE_PASSWORD= and set a valid password (ex: SET ONLINE_PASSWORD=mypassword)
- Save the file
- Double click on Binaries\R6VegasServerLaunch.bat
- You now have a running Standalone Dedicated Server, with a default configuration

Detailed Info:
- You can modify the dedicated server configuration.
- Start by ready carefully the DOCUMENTATION section of R6VegasServerLaunch.bat, and then modify to your desire.
- Then read carefully the comments in KellerGame\Config\PC\R6VegasServerConfig.ini, and tweak whatever you want
- When you're done modifying the files, double click on Binaries\R6VegasServerLaunch.bat
- You now have a running Standalone Dedicated Server, with your custom configuration

Administration:
The dedicated server doesn't have an graphical interface, but you can use Punkbuster's Web Interface
to do some administration tasks. Here's the procedure:
- ENABLE PUNKBUSTER SERVER
- Inside the "KellerGame\pb" sub-directory, edit the file "pbsvgame.cfg".
- Make sure the file contains the line below:
sv_punkbuster 1

- ENABLE PUNKBUSTER WEB INTERFACE
- Inside the "KellerGame\pb" sub-directory, create the file "pbsv.cfg".
- Add the following three lines to "pbsv.cfg":
pb_sv_httpport 8080
pb_sv_httpkey myhttpkey (change myhttpkey to something secret, it's your password for server administration)
pb_sv_httpAddr myipaddr (change myipaddr to the ip address of the PC running the SADS)

- Start the dedicated server.
- Open a web browser and connect to the server's IP on port 8080.
- Type in the httpkey
- You may now issue commands via the command field on this form.

For detailed information, you can consult Punkbuster's documentation:
- for admins: http://www.evenbalance.com/publications/bishop-ad/index.htm
- for players: http://www.evenbalance.com/publications/bishop-pl/index.htm

Server admin options via the Console Command interface:
There is also a text based command interface for more detailed server admin options.
Server Admin options may be accessible through the command console, and generally take
the form "admin.[command name] [options / params]. To use these commands, you must either
be hosting the game as the server, or you must use the punk buster web tool to send these
commands to the server. The commands are not case sensitive.

Options will generally be applied as the game starts up. If a reload is needed,
the map will reload between rounds.

admin.help -> Get a list of valid options
admin.[option name] help -> Option specific help

admin.spew -> dump current option values for all options
admin.sync -> set admin options to current server options
admin.push -> apply all admin options to current game immediately

admin.[option name] -> dump current info"

Thanks Goat - that was it.

Hypernia installed one for us. The problem is, Vegas 2, as of right now, does not support Windows Server 2003. I've searched all over the net on various forums this morning, and there does not seem to be a fix as of yet. Several other people have tried contacted ubisoft about this and hopefully it will be addressed in a patch.

Others are having the same problem you guys did last night when trying to join ... only one can join at any particular time. Some goofy coding issue or something.

Sorry guys...an OSG server is on hold right now.

So what are the chances of Hypernia upgrading the server to a newer server software and hooking us up ?

You sound a little disgruntled...and after reading your COD4 post, you probably are.

If it was rushed to market, and they put out updates to improve it, all the better. It is a blast to play...so far!! or until the next new game comes out. :)

It would have to be Vista and from what I understand it would be buggier than anything else out there right now. We'll have to wait until ubisoft fixes the issue.

Okay I went ahead and bought a 16 player server at Art of War. I will pay for 1st month and if you guys want to keep it let me know. It was only $50. I will get an email in a couple of hours with the info and it should be up tonight.

Oh yeah it is called "Old School Gamers". So look for it.

I tried gaming last night and it was a pain in the ass to say the least. Connectivity issues mostly. Then I see that they don't support Windows Server 2003 and along with some of the other problems that tells me they rushed the game. Most of you probably aren't aware but Server 2003 resides on about 90% of the servers out there so why didn't the Ubisoft folks have the foresight to code a dedicated server under that environment? In the gaming community I'm sure the market share for Server 2003 is higher than 90%. Back on topic though the game looks good and I'm all for the slower, more tactical game play. I had a blast when were playing R63. Contrary to my COD4 playing style I actually prefer the slower pace in games like Rainbow Six.

Ubisoft did this last time with Vegas 1 Ninja. Both games are ports from console releases. Some of the bugs, like the often "stuck machine gun noises" and the non-support for dedicated servers upon release were the same issues as last time. You'd think they would learn but it probably is not the same company that released Raven Shield....

Even with the bugs and while we wait for the next patch for (crossing fingers) Windows Server 2003 support, it is a great game. The cooperative tango hunts are a blast.
