Domino and I were playing this a few months ago. The graphics are not quite at the level of Vegas2 / COD4, but it is a great team shooter, very gritty and realistic (possibly the most realistic shooter I've played) and it's FREE (Assuming you have HalfLife 2). It is quite polished for a freely available mod and less buggy than a lot of released games and will run smooth on modest PCs.

There have never been alot of servers out there, but the ones that are there tend to stay full. There only a few maps, but most of the time that's all that gets played in most games anyway.

I'd love to get at least 1 or 2 other folks in here that want to team up and play a little.

Try it and let me know what you think if you like tactical shooters.

Check with McFeely Bucko - he's been trying to get people to play that forever!

To get anyone else to try this game.

Even if that's the case, 2 guys working together can do a lot of damage to the other team in this game. Domino might revisit, and who knows maybe we'll pick up a recruit or 2.

They came out with an update for INS in July. I played it last night. Still a bit choppy at times but it is playable. Maybe we can get together Friday night or late Saturday and play. A nice little 3 man squad would probably do pretty good.

I'm up for it. Friday is usually better for me to stay up a little late. I'll have to download the update. By choppy do you mean it's choppier than the previous version? I never noticed choppiness.

Ive installed the new version so I should be good to go. I sent the link for the new version to Domino, hopefully he'll get around to it.

I'm wondering if the choppiness you mentioned is slight delay felt when for example moving your gun back and forth? I always thought that was just a realism feature they put in to more accurate mimick holding a rifle (where you can't just do a complete 180 without the weight of the gun affecting your movement).

Anyway look for me on TS this weekend.

Here is a little motivation if anyone wants to join us:

I had to reinstall the client. I did not have the correct version running. I was playing Baghdad last week and the 2.1RC2 patch did not affect that. I found out after I tried playing one of the new maps. No choppiness now. I played a few maps this morning and the firefight mode is improved. They really have tweaked the weapons where you have to use the iron sights to get a clean kill. You have to have good mouse control to steady your weapon to fire from the hip. The in game voice is a must to work in squads.

I have been talking about this mod for a year now Buck, but none of the other Orange Boxers seem interested. I look forward to getting together with you and Domino on Friday. We seemed to hold our own pretty good on Vegas 2 Team Leader, hopefully we can really kick ass on this game.

Once again if you do not know this is a mod for HalfLife 2 which was part of Orange Box. You can pick HL2 anywhere for $19.99. Here is the link if you are interested in the Insurgency Mod, http://www.insmod.net/ it is about a 600mb download. If you enjoy the beauty and richness of TF2 on the Source engine you should see this.

I wonder if any of the HL2 owners who have shunned it so far are afraid it's just going to be a rinky-dink piece of crap mod? It's not like that at all, and if it looks like Counterstrike from the video above, it's only superficial similarities, it plays very different, is very realistic and tactical and awesome for team play.

Here is an idea so those who are interested who don't own HL2 can play for free:

Those of us who already owned HL2 when we bought Orange Box should have a "gift" option in Steam, where you can give your old HL2 copy to a friend. Unfortunately I have used mine up, but if anyone has an unused gift of HL2, maybe you could send the gift to someone who doesn't have it. Once they have HL2 they can download the mod for free.

So, if you have an unused gift copy you can spare, post here and hopefully there will be some takers.

Those who already have HL2, if you have not already tried this and you like games like Vegas 2 and COD4, you really must try this one.

Well Friday it seems a bunch of us got deep in Vegas2 (it was definately fun) and didn't get around to this. I played a little last night (Sat) but ended up wrapping it up early and spending time with the GF instead.

But I'd still like to squad up and play this. Domino is finally all installed and ready to go.

I think he also has a free copy of HL2 if anyone doesn't have it.. I think all he has to do is send you the link. I could work with him on getting that done if there are any takers.. He doesn't read the boards much. I think he only uses his computer for gaming and midget porn.

Yeah I know we got kind of side tracked, but it was great to get Nip into Team Leader. Once he got his first extraction as TL he couldn't be stopped. I remember the first time we played it with him a few weeks ago it was bitch bitch bitch. The other night after he got the hang of it. Damn! I bet he would have played all night if we hadn't said it was almost 2 and we had all been up since 6 AM. Ya gotta watch those retired guys.;)
