I love achievement farmers...


Lol.. I am usually the last person on the planet to farm for achievements or points. But I haven't been playing lately, and when I heard there was a heavy upgrade coming out, I thought "well I should probably go in and get some pyro unlocks" feeling a little behind on things.

So I go in.. hmm... how convenient... here's a couple of servers called "achievement box pyro". That sounds like just what I'm looking for.

Well it was a mistake... I went in there and within like the first 5 mins I had 261 kills as a pyro. So now my stats as a pyro are forever bogus. In the end it's okay because I rarely play pyro (and, I did get the weapons I wanted). I can't say I'm completely regretful of doing it, knowing that so many others out there will have all the unlocks and that comparing my stats against them is pointless with these achievement servers around, but I never care that much about stats or points anyway once I have the weapons needed to still have fun in the game.

I actually think the increasing trend of stats, achievements, badges etc has had a negative impact on gaming overall. I'd rather all games just get rid of them.

I agree...I just let time take it's course. I get kills regardless just by playing smarter. I've tagged our server "Vanilla" and hope to get regular players, not farmers. It's all the new maps (less Arena until they sort the bugs out, see Steam forums) and farming is allowed for 2 days. After that, play takes priority.

I just wish there was a way they could get rid of the maps that are specifically designed for farming. There are always going to be maps where there is some slight opportunities for exploits that lead to inflated stats, but that map I was in was rediculous. There were 14 other players in it, but you all spawned in the same general area, and while it took me a while to get to where I could stay alive for more than 5 seconds, once timing was on my side and I could get out of the huddle and run around and hit folks from the back, I was able to kill at will with no end in sight. Once a pyro gets the upperhand on that map everyone is toast until he decides he's done (unless an engineer sneaks out to the middle and puts up a sentry, in which he will be king of the hill for a while until someone gets a lucky hit and takes out the gun).
