View Full Version : Disappointing night

Well tonight was a bit disappointing in the Vegas2 server. I was pretty tired by 10:30, questioning whether or not I even wanted to game at all tonight. But, I said I would so I poured out a few shots of Stoli so the back pain wouldn't get to me, joined the channel and Nip and Goat joined shortly thereafter and we commenced to terrorist hunt.

A little later, three more guys joined the server briefly, but that lasted all of 15 minutes or so. I fully understand the reasons and that folks need to bail when they need to bail. But, with all the stir about tonight being a Vegas2 night, I can say I was definately disappointed to see how it turned out, especially since I went out of my way to be there.

This clan has a relatively large membership with a bunch of great guys, but it's definately fragmented, spread thin across many different games. I will look forward to jumping in to games with you guys if I see you online, but I'm not going out of my way to meet any scheduled times.

After I shut down Vegas2 I saw an e-mail from my girlfriend (it's pretty bad when your girlfriend sends you e-mail and she's in the other room), and it was basically an animation-type card with a sexy chick that said "Youre on the top of my to-do list".

It made me pretty feel pretty fucking stupid for actually making plans to show up on a game server on a friday night in the first place.

Just speaking my peace. No harm done just a lesson learned.

Especially when McFeely went to hL/2 and Domninoe went to Bf2? Has it come to this? We noticed earlier that "OSG" Slaughter and the gang were on the games playing but locked down to "non OSG" players?????
Can we get the the ventrillo server or are we not good enough? Just a a question for you people who we use to have a good time playing many different games?

Well Domino is just a little pug like that :) I'm don't expect any level of reliability there (ahem ahem, even though I talked to him at work and from everything he told me he was going to get off work, eat and then he was down for a Vegas2 night). I've known the guy 22 years so I expect the reliability of a AMC Gremlin with 500k miles on it. No worries, I will just go smack him around as I have historically.

Aside from that I'm not judging anyone's attendance. People have their reasons and that's cool, I'm just saying I'm not going to sign up for any particular gaming nights because it's all off-the-cuff impromptu from here on out. If I'm there I'm there but don't wait up.

First let me clear the air I was one of those people that tried to play last night and I had major video issues and I am running on a back up video card now.... My issues started earlier in the evening with COD4 and did a complete crash ...

Be that as it may I never saw a post asking people to join in a vegas 2 game for friday night HOOK ME UP !! ....yeah I like to play a varitey of games like many of the others do. And I push cod4 pretty hard but there are times when I just dont feel it and decide not to play video game and Play with the wife instead..or work on my book or just watch tv....as for guys like Sgt. Slaughter where does it say they must play with the rest of the team if they have an exclusive group thats their choice I like to play with Goat Hedgehog Sasknewfie evilvidiot and daughter Punisher and tombstone Pyro and spinal when he is there actually I like to play with just about anyone it does not mean that I wont play with the others just that I choose not too ...I have heard this complaint about Ventrillo and that specific Crew its their personal choice and I for sure dont have a complaint with them and I by no means am jealouse of them...maybe they just choose not to be involved with certain people or games...no sweat the games go on...people keep playing them and its all good

Whiskey - I knew you were having video problems, no worries there.

Nobody had any sort of obligation to be there, and the only people who conclusively said they would be there, were in fact there.

Not only that, I will go a bit further and say that not only do I agree with your comments the "play where you want, when you want" philosophy of OSG is one of the things I like best about it. I have been in clans that take gaming too seriously before, going as far as having mandatory training sessions, practices, scrims, etc. and I hated it because it starts to make gaming feel like work without a paycheck. Gaming should be a kick-back and have fun hobby that we pick and choose as we see fit or whenever it works for our schedule.

But that was my mistake last night... That's what this thread is about.

I assumed since I had been promoting Fri and Sat night in the two recent threads regarding Vegas 2 and playing team leader mode, that it would be a good idea if I showed up ready to play Vegas 2, otherwise it would seem like I was trying to stir up interest and then suddenly became a no-show. I think the sense of obligation was in my own mind, and it shouldn't have been there to start with. That's the reason I said "lesson learned", meaning for myself.

It's fully my bad and I'm definately not blaming anyone else. The solution to that for me is just no more sense of internal committment to play a certain game on a certain night.

If I'm there, I'm there.. I'll play as long as it's fun, but beyond that I'm not going to allow myself to feel any sense of obligation.

Hey Bucko...last night I wanted to play Vegas 2 and I've even mentioned in the forums that I was gonna play. When I logged on, nobody was playing and there were a few play COD4 at the time. So, I jumped onto COD4 and since there were continuously 6 to 8 players on COD4, I assumed that nobody was playing Vegas2. Usually we don't get 6 or 8 players combined playing first person shooters anymore.

Anyway, I should've logged of for a second here and there to keep checking the Vegas channel, but never...I just assumed that everyone who was playing were in COD4 and when the left they were done.

In the future, if there's another night planned like that, have someone jump into the other channel and ask or remind people of the other game. I would have been on Vegas in a heartbeat if I had of known it was still a go.

Sorry...hopefully the next one will be better!

I think I fell asleep while playing Vegas2 last night. Sorry guys. I woke up around 4 with my head on the desk, headphones around my neck and a pool of drool around my mouse. Sorry I guess I was more tired than I thought. At least I wasn't snoring into the mic again.

Individual apologies are really not necessary guys. Sask as I recall you had mentioned you might not make it so there was no expectation there. McFeely I was telling Nip that you must have had an important call or something else must have happened, because I've never known you to just drop out all of a sudden, in fact you are usually on long after I am.

It's not the individual events, it is the collective result.

In my mind, what Domino did was lame, but I also know he is oblivious to his offense until it is spelled out for him and there is a 90% chance he will never even read this thread. What will happen is I will talk to him on the phone a little later today (if not I'll send him an e-mail), I'll tell him thanks a lot for the asshat-move, he'll go "sorry about that", something similar or maybe nothing at all, then life and our friendship will continue on as it has. My expectations here were level-set sometime around 1989, so no real gossip here.

Ultimately, when I break the night down and look at it, the real disappointment was the collective result of a series of events rather than one single event or person.

Part of the disappointment was my own level of fatigue. When I talked to Domino on the phone at about 9:00 to tell him of the plans, he said something like my voice sounded scratchy. I told him it was from yelling at people at work. The truth is my voice just gets strained when I'm dead tired, as I was at 9pm. This time a year ago I had a manager and two junior software developers taking some amount of the workload. They are gone, I am doing everything I used to do plus what they used to do, including dealing with all of the problems they created prior to their departure. So, sometimes I'm just "done" by the time I get off work, but last night I felt like I needed to be where I said I was going to be in the boards.

That level of fatigue, combined with the events that went down, plus the fact I realized I had pretty much left the gf feeling neglected throughout all this was what led to this post. It's more or less a reality check and note-to-self on the role gaming needs to play in my overall schedule. If I write things down I'm less apt to forget, tired or not :)

I think this comment is uncalled for Nip...I have not seen slaughter or coolio on our ts for months and months, and that is their choice. Plus I know that family quit well and they all game, 3 brothers and their father! If they want to game together thats fine by me. I know if I had 2 other brothers and my dad gamed I would enjoy hanging out with them, anyone would.

I don't know what everyone always get fired up...about who's on and who's playing what on what days. Who carees! If you want to game and people are on playing that game join them, If knowone is on then goto bed or play single player or somethings else that guys are playing. I thought this group was to be a mature group. Learn to take one on the chin!

Hmm.. It seems this thread is headed in at least a couple of different directions. I think I'm going to be more careful about public rants after this.. LOL.

For the record I'm not sure I've ever even played with Sgt Slaughter and I didn't mean to involve him in my rant in any way. I mentioned to Nip last night that I saw "osg slaughter" in the list of servers a little earlier but I didn't even know if that was the same OSG or another clan with similar initials. I fully understand about shared accounts -- there have been a couple of folks on here that I've seen on Steam, jumped into a game of TF2, only to find out I was playing with one of their family members, and I think that's great! So if I stirred up anything there, believe me it was NOT my intention at all.

The one thing I was hoping to accomplish from this is just to establish once and for all that my gaming habits will be pretty much come and go as time or motivation allows, as it should be for everyone, without any implied need to meet at certain place at a certain time.

So, if I don't provide feedback on organized events for particular games, participate in polls and so forth, it should not be perceived that I don't give a shit or anything similar. I'm tracking with everything you guys are saying here and do not disagree in the least.

Anyway it's not that big a deal.. I just wish I had posted this in the Members Backroom area.. lol.. If anyone would like to move this thread here or delete it entirely, it won't be stepping on my toes at all :)

That's it boys...everyone have a turn at venting! I think a few in OSG should speak out and spill their guts so we can all have a beer or two (Hedge can have his Margarita or whatever girly drink he enjoys...anything with an umbrella I'm sure) and continue gaming.

I pretty much always try and stay neutral ,and being unbiased I can see issues slowly building here at OSG. Hopefully the next admin meeting may be able to get some of these problems out on the table.

Goat may be straight, Hedge may be gay and Punisher may be curious...who cares! Let's just take a chance to vent and get on with it...

You did not piss me off Nip...we are all adults and yes people do get frustrated. But in my opinion forms are not the place for venting. Right here (http://www.forces.ca/)...lol. It's what we call "adventure training". Basically, there's a budget set aside for military members to organize team building and somewhat challenging activities such as white water rafting. I've been on one other where we spent a week hiking, canoeing and rappelling...great time. Perhaps in the spring I may canvas you guys for suggestions south of the border!
