Hey, I know you're wireless, and that's probably as good as you're going to get without broadband. Anyone else?

Post more info on your rig like O/S, memory and gpu. What kind of IP are you usuing? The wireless is coming from somewhere unless you are using satellite. If you are using satellite it sucks for games. There is too much propagation delay. Unless you are on dial-up, which if you are your life must really suck.

Hey...My system has an nvidia 6200SE graphics card, 2GB of ram, 250GB harddrive, 920 Intel Processor (dual core), my internet is wireless through Yourlink (www.yourlink.ca)...It's not satellite. It may not even be a big deal, but I got booted off a server yesterday due to high ping. When mine's at about 150, other's are at 50...

Hey again...the past few nights my ping is averaging over 200 on most servers. I'm getting kicked out of 3/4 of the servers I'm playing on.

Could it be something I'm doing on my end causing an increase in ping? I don't know much about ping. Any suggestions on how to decrease it?

On the bright side...at least i have an excuse for sucking so badly!! Thanks in advance!!!

i had a high ping prob recently it turns out that it was spy ware. I could not get rid of it so i did a reinstall of windows and that fixed it.

Damn spy/malware is the worst. Sure hope that isnt your problem. I have a site you might check out, they have some pretty smart folks over there and probably have some ideas for you. And of course the search button is your friend.

Good luck with this.

Hey again...since I last posted in this thread, I did end up reinstalling windows for another reason. There are quite a few servers that I do get low ping on...50-80, however I'm still geting around 150 or more on our servers. Below is a speed test that I just done...according to that I should be fine. Any more suggestions?

Get speed test results for the Georgia, USA server. The Georgia server is closer to our Florida server, then the Seattle, Washington server. If the ping number is greather than 200, then move to Florida.

I work for Hughes Net as a satelitte/network technician. I am studying problems just like this on our old networks as well as our future networks and products. I have also done work in wireless networks. From what I have encountered, you will always have some sort of lag no matter what type of wireless network you have. It all depends on how far away you are from the reciever/transmitter. This lag accounts for your high ping. The greater distance you are from the source, the more lag you have. Under a home wireless network with your wireless router only a foot from your PC you can have a lag that can increase your pings up to 30%. I have proven this using internet analyzers and sniffers in our labs. As someone has said here earlier wireless is not good for gaming. I tend to agree with him. Your PC may be the source of high pings also. Spyware and such can make your PC's ping rate higher. I know this does not help you, but it explains why you are having high pings.

Yeah...ping is a little higher...

Also, I did a trace route to our main server...here's the results...

Is it normal to go through so many hosts prior to hitting our server? Thanks again...

Yes, 192.168.0.1 is your router or the interface your PC is using to access their network. It is also the IP you type in to access your router to change the configurations and such. 139.142.49.65 is the IP your internet provider has given you as per DHCP. 139.142.43.1 is your ISP Server. The rest are just basically relays. You told it to sort from best to worst. This is good cause it lists your worse one last. However it does not tell you which leg is the longest to the server or where you are having the highest pings. It is a slight concern that you are loosing 1%pkts at your router. Run this test again and I will be on Vent to help you.
