View Full Version : Air Assault and Helo capping prevention

Here is something that I was thinking about (I have no life). On maps that we have helo transport; have the pilot be the squad leader (so we can spawn on the helo. 2. Fill up the helo and cap a few quick flags then do a HALO jump into their main back bases. This means having the helo stay at a high altitude skirting the perimeter and go behind enemy lines, then have the full compliment of marines jump out (do not open chutes yet) and guide themselves toward the target and then open chutes at the last minute. This makes you a harder target to see and hit. Then SOF troops can take out their assets and other troops set up ambushes and take over their spawn points. For those who remember JO the C-130 drop into the base, something like that.
For defense of Helo capping spawns: I was reading that if C-4 was planted on top of the flag pole and detonated while the helo was hovering over it, it would make those stat grubbing punks think twice before doing it again. To make it happen drive a vehicle next to the pole and jump up with the C-4 and it put it on the pole cap, with practice it should stick. As a helo comes by blow it up. You can also try to jump off a building and try it that way. Just remember to open your chute as you come down.
Any variations of this will also work. I would like to practice this technique sometime this week or weekend. It should prove very effective in our scrims.
As always Shoot, Move and Communicate.
P.S. All you Navy guys should enjoy this tactic...........Death from Behind.

We tried it last night on Clean Sweep. It worked pretty well, it was a nice sight having 6 paratroopers jump in like that ( Tombstone, could we get video on that next time?) We capped it quickly on the first try but then came arty. We could use a commander and Spec Ops to neutalize that. The squad leader survive for a while so we could spawn on him but they came in waves to get that base back. It gave the rest of the team an opportunity to take over the other bases easily. On the second try we need more altitude since the helo got shot down. With more practice I think it could be a very effective tool.

I agree. This tactic seems to be a good way to get in unannounced but the helo needs to stay out of range. Maybe our first drop should be on their arty, what do you say?
It was awesome to freefall until flagpole level!

Good call on the arty. A little coordination will go a long way. It was an awesome freefall. Sgt Kay beat me down to the flag. Just remember to find the 9 button before you splat.

During Desert Storm, while you were stroking your pud, we were behind their lines killing Iraqis. That is what I call "Death from Behind". If you have some other connotation for the phrase "Death from Behind", you can shove it up your ass.

Damn Pulver did I hit a sensitive area? You would of liked the HALO jumping last night. Six motivated Marines jumping out and killing, capping and creative all sorts of destruction. So Sailor get your A$$ on and come play. BTW you are still my Biatch.

Well getting off of the general hammering on punisher ect ect ect
would some of you better pilots like to give some tips like what elevation is close enough to cap when you are above the flag ?
what is the best altitudes for ground attacks and at what speed ?
I have a problem of comming in way to fast and smacking a 0bject on my pull out of the dive what do you think the best angle of attack is and what other tips do you more experieced pilots have for the rest of us who are trying to do better . ?
Thanks Whiskey

Hey whiskey i would suggest just messing around in a helicopter. Now why would i say that....because for me that's the best way to learn the boundaries or limitations a helo has while flying, diving etc. I suggest go on single player or an unranked server or an empty server and just mess around flying the heli copters...do crazy stuff so you will start to learn how to pull out of dives at the right moment etc. I use to barely skim the ground and crash when i started doing that but after a while ya just know when to pull back on the stick at the right time to clip those infantry in the head with your wheels. and remember...loosen up ...if you crash ...o well grab another heli and try try again. Happy flying
