Hey all...I'm debating if I want to make the plunge over to the racing side of the house. A buddy gave me his V3 Advanced FX Racing Wheel (Dale Earnheart Jr. version). Is this wheel good enough to use for racing? It has the wheel and a set of foot pedals.

If this wheel is fine, which game would be the best to get right now...rfactor, arca sims, etc.? I only want to get one game, and would like to get the one that I can get the most useage with.

Thanks for any advice!

I was always interested in maybe doing an rFactor trainer car race series for us aspiring racing newbs. Locked car setups. Just racing for the fun of racing.

Sask,
it would be great to have you on the track with us. As far as what game to get ARCA is what we are running right now. We are having some good oval racing with this, the cars and tracks are great. If your into the road racing then rFactor is the way to go, almost any type of car and tracks from all over the world. Either one is worth the money just depends on what your into. PS you can download rFactor and it will give you a 1 hour trail to give it a run before you buy it. Get it here (http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=downloads) do the v1255 full install. Let me know if you have any questions.

Good advice from Viper. If you are into stock cars then Arca for sure. Seems to have serious legs with the racers. As to starting something for beginners like Ninja was thinking, rFactor might be a better choice. So many choices for all types of series, cars and tracks its the game that keeps on giving. Amazing support from the rFactor community. As to your wheel, anything is better than a keyboard/mouse combo.:p

Sask, the racing can be really fun. It's real easy to kill time making laps with friends on the track. Some questions you may want to consider to help steer you toward where you will have the most fun.

(Edit for Elmer Fudd moment above.)

Do like Road Courses or Ovals?

Do you like Open Wheel cars (Indy and F1) or Stock cars (NASCAR and ARCA) or Touring cars (GT and LeMans)?

Do you like real tracks, as realistic as possible? Or are fantasy track good for racing too?

If you answered Oval, Stock cars, and real tracks (N. American) then you would like ASR (ARCA Sim Racing).

If you like Road Courses, Open Wheel or Touring cars and real tracks (European, N. America, S. America, etc.) or fantasy tracks the rFactor is your best bet.

Hope this helps.

I loved racing with with the guys on the other side. A ton of fun! My only problem is... I only have a game pad rather than a wheel, so I can be a little more unsteady during a race. This is a big deal if your going 3 wide.

I love it though... some of the best adrenaline rushes I have had playing pc games. So if your thinking about playing sask and you have a wheel, don't pass it up. Go for it!

Thanks for the info...I played rfactor for that trial hour and was all over the road! I am really unsure what I like...I was never a Nascar fan or a racing fan. The closest thing I've come to this is taking my 4 yr old son to Monster Jam. From your post Tomb, I probably should buy both games! For some reason the thought of going around and around an oval track doesn't seem like a lot of fun though. I'm sure if i tried it, i may think otherwise. I've played games such as Need for Speed and do enjoy the road racing gameplay.

I think my deciding factor will be which game most OSG'ers are playing. I seen aprox 20 guys playing ARCA Sim a couple nights a week. What about rfactor? Do many actually still play that?

Thanks for the input gents!!

Sask, I also prefer road racing. Just ask Tomb. :) We had a couple "pick up" races on rFactor running the trainer cars and it was pretty fun. Maybe we could get a small group of guys to start a series? Nothing elaborate. Like I said, fixed setups, half hour to run the track a few times, , qualify for pole, then race.

I would be so down for this. You don't need a wheel to play a road course.

I know Viper was thinking of starting up another Road Course Series.

http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Porsche%20Fabcar%20Challenge

It is the Porsche Fabcars (Prototype) for rFactor. Very similar to the Rolex Series Cars.
I personally love road courses over Oval tracks but we can never get enogh people. Ill talk to Viper and see where he is at on the series b/c it sounds like we at least have 7-8 people right now.

ARCA is all automatic now and rFactor hasnt had an update in ages.
Dont remember how long ARCA will take to install but not too long. You dont have to use your disc though :D
