Since it looks like we have a growing number of OSS interested in taking to the track as a diversion from the battlefield, I thought I would start a thread where members could share pics or specs of their racing rigs.

I was addicted to online racing before I got into shooters (or joined OSS) so I have collected some stuff that I recently dusted off and put together with left over parts from some not so old PCs. Here are some pics.

The case is about the only new thing, except for the latest addition...seen here.

The ButtKicker lives up to the product hype (link here (http://www.thebuttkicker.com/downloads/ButtKicker%20Gamer%20brochure_high%20res.pdf)) and adds the driving by the seat of your pants feel to any racing game. Probably works great in BF2 also, but the way I have been playing lately I would probably end up in the hospital. :D

Nice set-up Tomb. What wheel is that, and did the shifter come with it? Is there a clutch pedal down there too? Cant tell its sort of dark. I have the red momo with paddle shifters. I will take some pics soon of how the rig looks in action.

What Sims did you used to run the most or like the best? I was into the Nascar series by Papy, but have not logged any seat time for awhile. I was trying to get back into Nascar 2003 but my buddies had stopped racing.

i tried a wheel and pedals once didnt like it. It put me at a disadvandage because i allways have to run auto shifter to many buttons to try and push on a game pad.
But i allways manage to do allright :D. So my race rig is the same as my shooter rig. I will just have to pull the game pad to the front of the desk. I will look for Nascar sim today when i am out and about.

I was going to buy some of these games until I saw that set up. Can you race with a mouse???

Hey Tombstone,

Very nice setup. I have not tried the wheel for the PC but I did invest in one for the PS2 a while ago for Gran Turismo and couldn't do anything with it despite trying numerous different sensitivities. I wish I could use something like that for driving particularly since the analogue gas and brake allows you to make small adjustments rather than having all or none.

I have Nascar Racing Sim now so I am ready to errrr...RUMBLE. Just so you other guys out there know....I drive like I skate. Not too graceful and when I crash there are usually others going down with me. :(

I would post my racing rig but it would be a bit embarrasing given that all you would see is a Logitech Game Pad :o

PS Guess I could sit on the Sub box as a "Butt Kicker" :D

There is a driver out there that makes the PS2 Momo wheel work like the PC version. I will have to search for it or find one of my buddies if he ever comes online to get me a copy of that driver. I should know I was playing Toca 2 on his PC with a PS2 Momo wheel. You can always do a search and I'm sure you will find what you need.

Hey Slaughter and Beaner, here is info on using the PS2 GranTurismo Wheel by Logitech for the PC. The writer even compares it to the Logitech Momo wheel for the PC.

http://www.barrys-rigs-n-reviews.com/reviews/2006/hardware/dfpro/dfpro_1.htm

Slaughter if you still have that wheel you might want to give it a try, The Logitech software and in-game settings really let you tweak the sensitivity and deadzones until it "feels" right for you.

Hey Roo, I went a little overboard...that rig is setup in a yet to be remodeled back bedroom. I do not think I will have the luxury of having all my old toys and 3 PCs being setup all over the house when we finally get finished fixing up this place. (good thing I am slow at remodeling)

It is not too good to race with mouse and keyboard but many people race with USB game pads like Plat was talking about. They are similar to the console game pads and give you a fair amount of control, especially if you have buttons or levers that respond to pressure for the gas and brake. (ya know instead of all on or all off)

Tort, it is the Logitech Wingman Formula Force aka "the Big Red Wheel". It was one of the first Force Feedback wheels and it has held up nicely. The wheel has a little slop that I could probably tighten up and I have replacement springs for the pedals. It does not have a clutch so I usually use auto-clutch in the game settings or use the left paddle shifter as the clutch. I always wanted to get the Momo wheel but this darn wheel never broke so I didn't. The shifter is a seperate USB controller, the RS Shifter by Act Labs. It has different plates that control the movement of the shifter...5 speed, 6 speed, Hi-Lo.

I started racing the original NASCAR Racing by Papy and even logged time in the online beta racing, aka Hawaii, before NASCAR2 came out. I raced on the gaming service TEN when they sponsored the official NASCAR On-line Racing Series (NROS). I even raced a few against Dale Earnhardt Jr., who was and is into Racing Sims. (BTW...none of this means I am good, just that I don't quit just cuz I suck) I have N2003 but never found time to race with it before the comunity started to dry up. I did play some EA F1 and Sports Car GT but the online racing in those did not compare with the online racing in the Papy series.

Hope we can all get on the track and have some fun. I still find myself waiting for 'drater or Beaner to bomb my ass coming outta turn 4...guess that's a sign that I needed a little break from BF2.:D

Thanks for the information Tombstone and Beaner on the Logitech Wheel. However, I don't have the Logitech wheel for the PS2 it is some other brand and is burried under guitar books in the closet.

The problem is that it has the typical PS2 style connector not a USB one. I understand there are adapters you can buy on-line but I don't like that wheel that much anyways. I think I will stick to the game pad as it works best for me (most likely due to the countless hours of Gran Turismo).

What night are you thinking of Racing? I am getting frustrated because I can't seem to figure out what the heck I am doing. I keep trying to do a pit stop (to fix the tire I just blew during a 3 car pile up ) and nothing happens (I even bring up the Pit List and toggle through the options and all I get is a guy telling my I'm the boss). I need an on-line tutorial or something because once again EA's manual is PATHETIC. I had the same frustrations with the manual for Need for Speed Most Wanted. Searched high and low trying to figure out how to take a freekin' screen shot......as near as I can tell you can't without 3rd party software.

I see his rig comes with the new and improved Rackmaster 5000 airbags. Nothing like the feel of safety when your racing around the track.
