If you haven't seen the show on Discovery about Goonch catfish, theres a river in Nepal where these were pulling swimmers and buffalo under water and eating them. The host caught one that was about 160lbs so they are only guessing at how big they can get but they figured maybe 8 feet or more. They could see six footers all day long by diving underwater. I was thinking for a little camaraderie we could get a group of guys together to head out to Nepal to go noodling (the favorite american past time, sticking your hand into a catfish hole and pull them out when they clamp down).
Here's a big ass 646-lb Mekong Catfish caught in Thailand.. the fourth pic shows them carving him up into steaks.

Yeah I saw previews for that show. There are some damn big fish out there judging by the clips they ran. I'll have to catch it when it comes on, no pun intended. :)

Apparently they grow enormous only in certain locations where the ritual is to hold funerals for relatives by the river where the body is burned and the rest cast out in the river.. So the goonch get a higher than normal food supply, nothing to hinder their growth... plus they develop an acquired taste for peeps. They ruled out the three species of crocs in that area because it was too high up elevation-wise and the water current too fast, nobody ever saw crocs that high up. Cool show, worth watching. They dramatize it a little like they do any reality show, so I was a little skeptical watching it but I looked it up separately and appears all legit. I think the reason nobody really saw the fish that massive was the murkiness of the water in that area.

Sweet and we need some way to transport one back if anyone has an 8 foot cooler.. I want to put one in the pond near my work for a little ecosystem experiment.
I got two four foot coolers will that do after I cut the bastard in half for steaks? Nothing like fried catfish and hush puppies and maybe some cheese grits, lol!

How did you know my ecosystem experiment involved puppies? :)
