Hey guys, just a heads up that Good Old Games is having a 50% off weekend for some racing games (thanks Radclyffe). So anybody that might be interested in getting in some Toca Race Driver 3 action can pick up the game for 5 bucks.

EDIT: A link would help huh? http://www.gog.com/en/page/racing_weekend/

The only racer I own is Grid.. the price isn't as good as those listed (30 bucks on Steam), but if you want a good casual racer that can be played with either a gamepad or wheel and has intense multiplayer, quick to join races, lots of cars / tracks etc, you can't go wrong.

Don't bother trying with a mouse and keyboard though. You need something with variable analog throttle (keyboard won't work well because its digital). I had decent results with an older Logitech dual action pad, but I recently tossed that in favor of a 360 controller for the PC that works well because of the triggers in front. I mainly got the 360 controller for GTA IV and it made a huge difference there too, nice controller... No replacement for mouse in shooters though.

Slowly but surely I am being dragged into racing. I have the aforementioned ToCa Racedriver which no one plays. I picked up Dirt2 and actually bought a game pad to play it. I royally sucke at it, but the guys let me play for my off-color commentary. I just installed Grid and now I am finally competitive. It took some tweaking but I got the gamepad tuned. I raced last night on the Canook network and held my own pretty good. Later I raced just with Slaughter and I think we about broke even. We raced a simulated 24 hour race that actually lasts 24 minutes. There is a period of darkness which is scary as hell. On some of the straights you can wind it up to 250 plus MPH. It was 24.99 on Steam I would be up to racing with some others now. I know I won't take out the field now. May the force be with you.

I find Dirt2 to be as much fun as Grid but a lot harder to do well at, at least with a gamepad. It definately takes a willingness to back off the throttle to keep things in control. I think I suck at it Grid too but I can have fun losing. Grid I do better at overall than Dirt2 but it takes me about 20 minutes of warming up before I can really compete, and even then I only do well with certain cars.

I played both Dirt 2 and Grid and I did not care for Grid. I feel Dirt 2 is by far a better game.
(thank you Ragnar for making me get it)
