Great info, thanks. It still leaves me wondering how, on occasion, my tank will explode on one hit? I guess it could be 2 simultaineous 10 point hits...

Yea Psychodad it leaves me wondering also. I have been killed quite a few times with one shot and from quite a distance and it makes me wonder what kind of ammo they were using, especially since I had just hit them with three or four shots? Take care now and keep your powder dry!

I will tell you how to kill a tank in one shot...
If you are ever on lower ground from an enemy tank and he is coming down a hill or going over a bump shoot the underplating between the treads. This happened to me a couple of times and the only reason i could come of with was when my front end poped up and he shot me in that 'super sweat spot'.

If you want i can test this and takes pictures...havent done it in anything else besides a tank but i think the tow might work with one shot to a full health enemy tank.

Thanks for the info Odrater, you can bet I'll be trying that my next time as AT!

Great guide for BF2.

In reality, hitting a tank in the "V" formed by the race ring of the turret where it joins the hull will almost invariably pop the turret off of the tank. The turret of most tanks is only held down by gravity (and there's a lot of gravity on a 30-ton turret), it's not bolted down. So if you can get a sizable explosion in that V (AT4 or HEAT round), you've guaranteed that tank isn't fighting any more. When I was on M1A1s we were taught "One Shot, Center Mass" like a sniper.

I found out while testing the tanks that when using a m1a2 against a t90 and you shoot it in the underplate it will bring it down to 3 and quarter bars which is worth trying to shoot if you get the opportunity. But now i think of it the m1 is the weakest gunned tank in the game. The t90 and the chinese tank should do the trick in one shot.

For being infantry it does 10 damage to hit the underplate so i would just shoot for the treads instead.

*main point*- in a tank shoot for treads....if opportunity arises shoot for the underplate
at infantry...shoot for the tread almost every time if you can..

One other interesting real life story to ponder:
The M1A2's main load is the Sabot (Sa-bo) round.
It shoots a depleted Uranium dart. The Uranium is so dense it can penetrate many inches of steel depending on the speed of the round at time of impact. At approx 25' from the end of the main gun muzzle the casing around the dart falls off revealing the approx 2' dart with metal fins just like a game dart.
The story goes that the dart will penetrate the front of a tank turret and leave only a 3-4" hole. It will then exit the rear of the turret and leave a 6-12" hole. If it doesn't hit anything combustible (like the stored ammo) it doesn't blow anything. However the dart will exit the turret with such a high speed that it will create a huge vacuum in the turret. Everything not bolted down will be sucked out the rear 12" hole. You guessed what that might be - the crew.
Terrible way to go. Hard to image dying when your 6' body was sucked thru a 6" hole.

(Ps. I exercised tremendous restraint when given the opportunity, in this story about sucking and holes)

All those rules go out the window when I am in the tank. No matter who I am against mobile AA, BTR, or another tank, they kill me. At least it takes more than 1 shot with the other vehicles. So pooey on the tank. I'll keep my M203 anyday.

Speaking of "pooey on the tank" I have some information on this as well...

When your tank commander has "the runs" caused by nerves when crossing the border into Iraq at night - there is a proper technique to deal with this.
First, you turn the main gun over the right front fender.
Then the TC can exit the commanders hatch and stand on side of the rear deck. He can then lower his pants and hold on to the bussle rack and bend over with his a$$ hanging over the side.

If done properly the cord to the radio will still reach so he can describe what he is doing over the company net. All this can be done while traveling the desert into Iraq in a staggered column at about 30mph.

The driver (me) may get blamed for the chocolate skids on the side skirts caused by hitting bumps - but I feel this is the commanders responsibility.

I'm told this looks very interesting thru the night sights of the tanks behind you.

True story about a Pooey Tank.

I'm guessing no action from said "hot chicks" planned for th future. LMAO.

We also had a guy who refused to dump in the desert for weeks. He held it until he had cramps so bad he was doubled over and crying.

Had to evac him. I heard the enema was quite productive.

Chair, I guess the last thing to go through your mind would be your feet, eh?

It makes me laugh after I punch two of those Sabot's into a T90, and he's still shooting back. Or even worse, an LAV who ends up blowing me up. I guess if they made the M1A1 too realistic, it would dominate, but one hit should take down an LAV at least.

Oh well, I've had some killer games in a tank, but most of my kills come from the "inside" machine gun, whatever that is. I use the "F10" outside view all the time to watch for miners or C4'ers, then jump back to "F9" to shoot the guns. That machine gun is a "shredder"!

The "inside" machine gun is an M240 7.62mm coaxial machine gun (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m240g.htm), mounted to the side of the main gun which gives it stabilization, including windage and laser range compensation.

The dumb thing about this machine gun is that before firing it for the first time you actually have to raise the main gun to max elevation in order to load it by climbing on top of the main gun breach and feeding the rounds through a skate. Then you have to reach over to where it's mounted and manually pull the charging handle (a rubber-coated steel wire that sometimes gets bound up in the main gun mechanism).

Wow, sounds like a lot of work. Seems like the 50 cal would be a better gun, but in the game, the M240 seems to work better for me. Plus you're under a lot of armor, eh?
