anyone else played this? Its infantry only, rather like unreal tournament in the way it plays. Gorgeous graphics and very fast and furious. I havent played online yet but it looks pretty good so far. There are various game types, pure 'kill the other team' and 'defuse bomb' are the two I've tried so far. Dunno if I can get screenshots but I'll try. The good thing is.NO AIRCRAFT (I think)

I used to play it all the time, but the hackers took over. It's great with small maps and terrorists vs. ct's. Defuse, rescue the hostages, all that. You wanna go?

counter strike is counter strike source means u didnt buy half life first.
if you bought HL then CS would have been a free download.
The game has changed a lot over the years but it is still counter strike.

ok, I get it..............I think.......
I play CounterStrike:Source.
And Day of Defeat:Source.
Both are very faced-paced, first person shooter games. They are both built on the Source graphics engine. The 'Source' graphics engine was created when Valve/Steam came out with Half-Life 2.
Half-Life 2 has been voted The Best Video Game of 2005, by pretty much every video game reviewer on the planet. Half-Life 2 and it's 'Source' graphics engine have become the standard by which all other video games will be judged. Halo 2 doesn't stand a chance.
Day of Defeat: Source is what I have been playing lately.

I've always been a big fan of both, it's just finding a good server (like ours) that frustrates me. You know any?

Well I can tell you that there is a good group of DOD people out there. They have several servers that play mostly custom maps. They aggresively admin their servers so watch your language. Very friendly and helpful folks. Here is the link to their site.

And Day of Defeat:Source.
It's been a couple of years since I played Day of Defeat...yeah, it is very fast paced. For me it's pretty much die, die, die, die...over and over. lol! I have the original, does that still work? Do people still play the original or will there be 101 updates required to play again?

CS and CS:Source are pretty much the same game only difference is that CS:Source is an updated version of CS that uses Valve's Source engine since it was at the time of release was revolutionary. Basically you're playing an old game with improved graphics.
I cannot enjoy these games with you guys because I cannot avoid getting dizzy to the point of vomiting. You can ask Purple I had to get off after about 10 mins of CS:S.

funny you should mention that, I thought it was just my eyes making me feel like that. the mouse doesn't seem to work correctly, it kind of slows down and yes, I too felt nauseous when I first played CS.

Counterstrike and Day of Defeat were mods developed based on open source of the original HalfLife game engine. It came out in 1997. The coders and designers along with the mods were bought by Valve after the community for the games became so large. I started playing CS in 1999 and started playing DOD in 2001 when the first beta came out. I met TJ and Tortelvis in 2001 through a custom map community. At that time the map code was open source and it seemed like there was a new map every week. One drawback was that you had to deal with cheating because of the open source code which had a dark side. (A sidenote about DOD it was very clunky in the beginning, but one of the original features was bandaging. If you got shot and could get to a safe place quick you could heal yourself up. The only drawback was you left a trail of blood and you could be heard gasping. You could still defend yourself, but you could also be hunted down and shot like a dog. Very cool.)
This version DOD is a year old after 2 years of waiting by the fervent community for it to be updated to the HL2 engine. That is why they have CS: Source and DOD:Source. That is so you know that it is the new version. You can still play the old version but not many do. Still it seems that there are a lot of custom maps (which download from the server). I played today for the first time in about 9 months. The graphics engine that Valve uses is very different from EA's. It is smooth and your frame rate depending on your graphic card will be very high. You can adjust your mouse sensitivity, the game is designed to be fast paced.
I remember DoD when you had to bandage yourself.
That was along time ago.
Wal-Mart has the original one for $19.77 and the counter force for $29.84 whivh is cheaper on both counts (by pennies) than best Buy which is normal. Everybody is cheaper than Best Buy, those idiots!
So what the hell is new Newfie? It's the same in any game for me! Die, Die, Die! Isn't that what the game is supposed to be? You mean it's supposed to be something different? All this time and I have been playing it that way? I have to get a life I think instead of giving them away, lol!

My copy of HL2 was included with my ATI 9800 Pro however my account just sits there unused. Purple its just not the same bud when we can't banter like we use to eh?

I tried playing the original, but can't find any servers...is that simply because it's phased out/obsolete? Oh well, I guess I may actually buy the new version if people plan on playing it...

if you own Half life 2 you should be able to play CS the new version with out paying any more money.
