Ok heres the situation.
1. When i try running something that requires the use of memory or memory checking the mouse pointer freezes but i can select stuff normally as if the mouse pointer just went invisible.
2. I cannot shut down normally.
I have to push the power button to turn the computer off.
3. When the comp is playing sounds and i try to go to another application or do something else the sound goes scratchy and 'skips' if thats what you call it.
4. I've notice on startup the windows screen takes longer than normal.
I talked to Tombstone a little bit about this and he said it might be something do to with resident memory being taking up, possible cause is adware but i did some scans and nothing came up (ad-aware se, avast 4.6)
I'll update this post if i find anything else wrong or figure it out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would definitely make sure the system is spyware and virus free first. Try booting up in safe mode and see if the problem persists. While in safe mode run your virus and spyware programs. Some good spyware programs are Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware, and Microsoft Anti-Spyware. If you don't have a virus scanner I highly recommend AVG's free virus scanner. I'd also defrag your system while your at it. Check to see if your page file isn't fragmented.

ok when i press F8 on start up it asks me to boot to a certain drive....now which one should i choose? The floppy is my guess. I'll try that. Also how do i check if my page file is fragmented?
(edit) i found 1 fragment in the page file

To boot into safe mode press the F5 key during boot up. From there you will get a menu giving you the boot up options. Booting into safe mode only loads the necessary services to run Windows. If you experience some of the same symptoms in safe mode I'd start leaning towards a hardware issue. Maybe bad memory or a failing power supply.

Hope you are getting closer to ID'ing the problem. It was actually SteelGeek and I that were trying to help that night OD.
Just remember try to walk thru the troubleshooting one step at a time, otherwise it is difficult to isolate the problem. I have a bad habit of not listening to that last bit if advice and end spending more time than necessary sorting out the problem.

Well i figured out the safe mode and spend a butt load of time scanning that computer for virus's and whatnot. Only found 2 virus's and a worm the first time around. Now it shows up clean but i don't know if i really killed the virus's or whatever it is.
It could have just messed up a bunch of system process's because the thing still has the same symptoms. I tried a registry cleaner to see if that would help and i found a bunch of problems there, fixed those. Still i have the same symptoms.

It sounds to me like it is time to take it out back and shot it sorry but it must be done. If all else fails format the hard drive and reinstall windows.
There is another option i dare not say it aloud. The umm shh is there any body looking? No ok then take it to the geek squad.. no not to best buy but maybe a local PC shop sometimes maybe a good idea. Any way good luck man.

Wow tomb after i made that post i went to trouble shooter and looked at a shut down problem and it led me to system restore.
Just remember try to walk thru the troubleshooting one step at a time, otherwise it is difficult to isolate the problem.
YOUR A GENIUS Tomb i love ya man! I got all the symptoms to clear up for now but whatever i did since the last restore point is lost(i think) but hey it works now.
